Mike Summers - December 2013:

After boarding so many wheelchairs on flights to Branson, I decided it was time to go check this town out. Branson is in southwest Missouri near the Arkansas border. The airport (BKG) is quite small. There is no taxiway along the runway. After you land, the plane does a U-turn at the end of the runway and heads back to the terminal. There are no jet ways, You exit the plane via a ramp to enter the terminal (Airport Website: http://flybranson.com/ ). The airport is about 8 miles southeast of town. As far as ground transportation, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National and Alamo are the official car rental providers and the only on-site companies for Branson Airport. Hours of operation mirror Branson Airport flight schedules and representatives are onsite daily from 9:00AM until all reservations from the last flight of the day have been picked up. Also available, car rental through Budget and Avis can be accessed by shuttle service from the Branson Airport terminal to their off-site offices. We used Avis, which was quite satisfactory. It cost $45.00 per day, but it allowed us to get around on our own time frame. You want to reserve your rental car before leaving Denver. Other options are taxis, luxury sedans, and the Gray Line Airport Shuttle. As for taxi's, Branson Yellow Cab and Jerry’s Super Shuttle are the only designated cab companies allowed to provide cab transportation for arriving passengers at the Branson Airport. Cabs (417) 332-CABS (2227) can be booked ahead of time or reserved upon arriving at the Airport. Cab rates from the Branson Airport consist of a flat fee per destination. Arriving passengers may book round trip transportation to and from Branson for a $5 discount. Taxi cab rates are applicable for 1-3 people. Each additional person over 3 adds $10 to the fare. Children under 10 ride free. Count on at least a $30.00 fee for a cab ride. The Gray Line Shuttle Service should be booked ahead of time at (800) 237-4466. After you land, board the Gray Line hotel shuttle that services all hotels in Branson. The shuttle is available for large and small groups or individuals needing transportation to the Branson area. The shuttle is available for 30 minutes after each flight unless advance reservations have been made. Rates are $14.00 per person with a two-person minimum. Luxury sedans can be booked ahead of time at (800) 237-4466. Luxury sedan service accommodating up to four people per car provides first-class transportation to and from the airport. Luxury sedan service is available by reservation only. You should call in advance of your arrival into Branson to speak to one of their specialists. From the airport, you travel north on US Highway 65 to MO Highway 76 w exit. (Branson Maps: http://bransonbanktours.com/map.php and http://www.bransontourismcenter.com/images/Map_screen.gif ). As you view these maps, you'll note that the majority of hotels, theatres, and attractions are along Highway 76, which is West Main Street that becomes West Country Blvd. Performances are numerous and varied. Here is a website for attractions in 2014:
http://www.bransontourismcenter.com/shows/2014 . You're likely to find a show that will attract your interest. Restaurants are also numerous and varied. There are numerous websites for food choices (Websites: http://www.dinebranson.com/restaurants/ and
http://www.explorebranson.com/dining?utm_source=Madden&utm_medium=Bing%2BCPC&utm_campaign=Dining ); it should be easy to find a restaurant to suite your taste. There are many hotel choices which you can research at http://www.bransontourismcenter.com/lodging/ . We used Hotwire and stayed at the Angel Inn for $34.00, which included breakfast. This hotel satisfied our needs and was worth the price. I'd stay there again. All-in-all, Branson is worth a quick overnight trip (or two). Do some research before you go so that you know what show you'd like to see. During the winter months you can find many two-for-one deals or discounts for shows.
